gigs galore
November 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment
This week i managed to go to a couple of gigs, something i rarely get time to do and one of our busiest weeks i get to go to two!
First was the Plastiscines at the Barfly, they are 4 really cute and trendy french girls with some killer tunes. I have a big girl crush on them all! here are my pretty crappy pics from the gig.
Yeah not great pics, i finally got my lumix camera back from repair after only using it once and the flash breaking, it took 3 months for the part to come in…..a bulb! so i havent actually been able to get used to it, but am glad i got it back intime for the little noise sessions at the union chapel in Islington for Mencap.
Me(emma) and Chris saw The King Blues, The Blackout and Lostprophets perform acoustic sets. Loved the male voice choir that Lostprophets bought on with them, reminded me of going to see my dad sing in his male voice choir at the Llandudno palladium, Male voice choirs are a big thing in Wales, my dad leaves me voicemails of him singing happy birthday to me every year in his choir voice and were a part of my life growing up haha so it was quite nice to see them used in a modern way.
The venue union chapel in Islington is amazing, we were going to do a shoot there last year but had to change the location at the last minute due to a briefing change
i am sure we will find an excuse to shoot there again soon
The lighting was really sinister and epic
Anyone suggest any good gigs this week? We need things to do to keep up sane with all this work flying around here at the studio
xx i heart xx

Goodnight Luella :(
November 16, 2009 · 3 Comments
My heart is breaking and I am in mourning. Last week Luella ceased trading! I almost don’t know what to do with this information! How can this be? Loads of people love those quirky designs and girly frocks, not to mention some of the world’s greatest t-shirts. Why would anyone be so cruel as to remove their funding from this delightfully pretty fashion house?! *sad face*
Every hip-young-thing in London, from Alexa to Lily (not to mention myself…) has been pictured in Ms Bartley’s designs and they’ve all managed to look amazing – for one reason and one reason only. It is IMPOSSIBLE to look bad in a Luella creation.

Alexa in THAT Luella dress
From her Spring/Summer 2008 collection with those cute florals toughened up with clunky boots – a way I still insist on wearing my own florals – to her super cute (and sometimes superhero) sketches on cotton t-shirts, each and every collection that we have been lavished with was and has been a real statement of fun in a business that can be known to take itself a little too seriously at times.

Superheros on a catwalk
The saddest thing that I’ve read so far about this untimely demise is that, not only will there be no new collections, but the orders for the recently previewed SS10 collection (that Ms Wintour herself attended – all polka dots, hearts and volume) will not be met because of the closing down of the producer of th Luella ready-to-wear items. *more sad faces*
Since the announcement of this oh-so-sorry news, twitter has gone into #saveluella overdrive as everyone who loves the brand, including fellow designer Henry Holland makes their sorrow known, and LB herself has been quoted as saying: “I love the Luella character and hope that after we have survived this challenging time the Luella girl can have an exciting future ahead of her.”…So if we all keep our fingers crossed we hopefully won’t have to wait too long before we get to see some fun filled fashion action once more.
Of course on the brighter side…perhaps we’ll be treated to a few sales of all that remaining lovely stuff in the mean time…?
Axx
P.S. These pictures were not taken by us.
